The Halász Castle was built around 1810 in the neoclassical style, and in 1910 the owner, Gedeon Halász Jr. had it rebuilt into a small baroque castle. After the devastation of World War II and nationalization, the building, renovated in its original splendor, was handed over to visitors in 2016. The building is an exhibition space and event centre, hosting temporary and permanent exhibitions.

The main wing of the building, now known as a Halász Castle was built by Magyary-Kossa Péter jr, the chief tax collector of Fejér County around 1810. The manor house in the early classicist style was a typical example of the constructions of the wealthy commoners, the “table-bearing world”.

In accordance with the woman’s will, the Magyary-Kossa property passed largely to her nephew, Sándor Sárközy of Nádasd, and through the marriage of her niece to Lázár Halász. 100 years later Jr. Gedeon Halász expanded, technically modernized and rebuilt his hundred-year-old home into a small neo-baroque style castle. At the same time, through the purchase of some neighbouring plots, the former small ornamental garden was transformed into a true English park by expanding in the western direction

After the destruction of World War II the building became uninhabitable. As a result of nationalization, first most of the estate, then the castle, the outbuildings, and finally the small land left behind were taken from the family. At the beginning of the new millennium, only the mass of the castle reminded of the former noble home.

The castle’s process f rebirth gained a real momentum in 2014. Thanks to the support of the Hungarian government and the European Union, as well as the own resources and considerable work of the Velencei-tavi Kistérségi Foundation, on June 25. 2016, the Halász Gedeon centre in Kápolnásnyék was inaugurated in a ceremonial setting, i.e. the renovated Dabas Halász Castle, the 1,5 hectares castle park and the Event Centre.

The cultural life of the castle is also constantly developing: the former owners, members of the Halász family, would be happy to experience that within the walls of the beautiful building, melodies, meaningful conversations and constructive community programs once again play the main role.

This aspiration is confirmed by the ever-increasing number of visitors to the programs and the ever-expanding range of programs: the summer Castle Concerts, the highly successful Castle Tales, the Advent in the Castle series and the FÜLEmüle concert series launched for the delight of children.
