Who is this genius? – screamed one of the judge at that World exhibition in Paris where the world go to know Vilmos Aba-Novák’s panno. The gallery’s walls were designed for the paintings which got a gold medal to be seen. sometimes the walls are cowered with temporary exhibitions. The gallery’s building is famous, originally it was made to be Horthy Miklós rest centre.

From 1955 it is the temporary exhibition place for the Szent István Király Múzeum. In 1963 the Csontváry exhibition of outstanding importance from the view of art history and cultural policy history was organized here, and since 1965 “The XX. century Hungarian art” exhibition series. It gives place to different types of international and national fine arts exhibitions. The gallery was first intended as a rest centre by Ferenc Schmidl in 1944, the façade’s mosaics and statues were made by Ödön Metky. The museum got a part of the building and the county library uses the other part. The institution was named after a painter from the county, István Csók (1865-1961).
